About the Authors
Born and raised in rural East Texas,
Henry York is a life-long resident of Palestine, Texas. He has
served as Fire Chief for the City of Palestine twenty-two of his
thirty-eight years of fire-fighting service. A musician since he was
sixteen, Henry has written more than thirty country-gospel songs and
innumerable poems. Henry played in two gospel groups for over
twenty-two years. Ten of his songs have been recorded.
While song writing with his six-year-old granddaughter, Katie
Elizabeth, the story of Butterfly Billy, was conceived. Katie walked
in while Grandfather Henry was playing his guitar. He asked if Katie
would like to help him write a song. He asked if she would "like to
write about a...dog?...a pony?" " No, a butterfly," Katie suggested.
They named him Billy. Henry played the song for his performing group
and one of the guys suggested Henry turn the song into a children’s
book.
Katie's tenth birthday surprise was being presented with a copy of
the beautifully illustrated book created from the song she and her
grandfather wrote about Butterfly Billy.
