About the Book
Held
is nothing short of a small treasure. Held is a small
collection of poetry and photography that is the product of someone
with a simple, yet creative and full spirituality. The poems are
essentially entries into Becky’s journal – her prayers. These poems
give a very personal and transparent look into the soul of an
everyday woman dealing with the everyday challenges of being a wife,
mother, employee, and world citizen. They have grown from the
typical struggles that come with life: adjusting to being a mother,
dealing with change and loss, faith and forgiveness, and living life
in modern culture.
The poetry inside is not of the lofty and pretentious type that is
unapproachable unless you have a literary degree. On the contrary,
the poems are real and honest and can appeal to anyone – even those
who say they don’t like or “get” poetry. They communicate simple
truths in ways that penetrate deep into the heart. When you read
them, you have the sense that someone has finally understood what
you’ve been feeling but didn’t know how to express.
As a bonus, some of the poems are accompanied by black and white
photographs on the opposing page – serving as a visual counterpart
to the poems. They are photographs of simple, yet beautiful moments
that capture the imagination and evoke a sense of reflection and
wonder.
Held is a small book but a book that can be picked up over
and over again like a trusted companion. It’s the kind of book you
leave on your bedside table and pick up from time to time when you
need to express emotion you can’t find the words to vocalize. But
perhaps the real gift of Held is that it provides a subtle
reassurance that you are not alone in your struggles and that there
is always someone ready to listen. |

Family, friendships, loss, change, and today’s hectic culture
inspire Becky and she hopes that by sharing her personal struggles
and lessons that others can find comfort and hope as well.
