About the Author and Illustrator   LaVerne Shaw is a native New Mexican having spent her entire life in the southeastern corner of the state.  She is the descendent of hardy Western pioneers who settled in New Mexico when it was still a territory.  She and her husband, Charlie, have raised two sons and think they helped raise two granddaughters. She spends her time writing fun tales, water coloring, quilting and reading.  She says she will never have enough time to do all the things she would like to try!   I enjoy doing my own watercolor covers. They may not be professional but they are fun to dream up and watch emerge in print.
