About the Book
Rupert and Abadenego (pronounced abba-den-e-go)
were conceived by the author, Dorothy Ann Johnson, while making her
niece’s favorite Jell-o salad. “My writing project was to describe a
manual deed that day, and before I knew it I had two very
mischievous leprechauns invading my reverie.” Of course, the Jell-o
had to be orange, since these fellows are so obviously Irish.
Johnson considers the inspiration a pure gift and wants to share the
antics and enjoyment that she has received from them. These two
little green fellows have a lot of family connection and the
Anderson children cited in the story are actually based on the
author’s grandniece and grandnephews. So, Rupert and pal romp
through a maze and mess of orange Jell-o and encounter some great
adventures and daunting obstacles. Read along and see how they
finally make it back to Leprechaunland, isle of the Leppies!

Reviews NEW
Ms. Johnson's book is a delightful story. It
appealed to my preschooler's creative imagination. The author's use of
imagery and her story-telling ability completely drew him in. I recommend
this book to the young and old alike!

Reviews
Dorothy Johnson's
first library job was as a children's librarian, and now she has combined
her love of children's literature with her newest passion-writing. Dorothy
finds joy wherever she looks, and in her first published book she takes a
simple act of leaving food on the kitchen counter and makes it into a
whimsical fantasy trip. Dorothy's ability to enjoy the "wee" things in
life is an inspiration to us all.
