About the Author
Carolyne Wallingford taught first grade
for 24 years in the Walnut Valley School District -- first at
Collegewood Elementary School, and then at Cyrus J. Morris
Elementary School from the time it opened until her retirement. She
loved teaching
first grade and never wanted to teach a different grade level.
Ironically, she missed most of first grade as a child because of a
broken arm and an illness. She was able to learn to read and do math
from her mother’s teaching at home.
Carolyne was born April 10, 1928 in Los Angeles, California. Like
many young women at the time, she married young and started a
family. It wasn’t until her two children were both in school that
she began her college education and earned her teaching credential.
Soon after, she pursued a Master of Arts Degree with a thesis in
teaching reading. She loved books, and she had stories of her own to
tell. “The Moon Trip” is one of the three that she put to paper.
Carolyne’s daughters have arranged for publishing of her books as a
lasting tribute to her memory. |

About the Illustrator
Robert Maltby has been drawing and
painting his entire life. When he was only seven years old, he spent
an afternoon drawing the Flintstones with Hanna and Barbera. Later,
he studied Art in California at South Hills High School and Mt. San
Antonio College. In addition to his Art Show with the Art Guild in
Greenwood, South Carolina, Robert has displayed his Impressionisms
in art shows in California and Hawaii. Since residing in Greenwood, he has been devoting most of his time to his unique Pointillisms.
He also paints in acrylics and oils, and some of his most colorful
works are from time spent in California and Hawaii. He especially
enjoys working on paintings and drawings of lighthouses, landscapes,
buildings and people.
Maltby’s talent and diversity is now reflected in his latest work,
illustrating The Moon Trip. When asked to be included in this
project, with honor, Robert stated, “It is such a pleasure to
contribute to my favorite Aunt’s dream.” |
